AUSTIN SAUNDERS, a senior at Baker High School, has partnered with MOBILE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE to use this SATURDAY, JANUARY 12, 2012 as a day to bring your unused prescription drugs to their sub station in Theodore. Austin is participating in the Drug Education Council’s Red Ribbon Community Project. If he wins he could receive scholarship money for college.
In 2010, The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and Mobile United started their own safe drug drop-off program called, OPERATION MEDICINE CABINET. “We wanted to give our community a “safe” place to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs,” said Sheriff Sam Cochran. “We know that prescription and over the counter medications are fast becoming a dangerous part of teenage gatherings and we felt we needed to provide a way for people to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs year round, not just once a year.”
Over the last two years, Operation Medicine Cabinet has successfully taken over 10,000 prescription drugs off the streets.
Operation Medicine Cabinet is located at 5808 US Highway 90 W., Theodore, Al. 36582. This location is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you would like to participate this weekend, we will be at the location this SATURDAY, JANUARY 12 FROM 9 TO 12:00.
