Pistol Permit
General Information
Applicants must be residents of Mobile County and be at least 19 years old to apply for a pistol permit.
Applicants must have valid identification (current Alabama drivers license or state ID) with them when they come in to apply and renew.

Please review these PISTOL PERMIT GUIDELINES prior to submitting an application.
Notice:
Applications with felony or domestic violence convictions will be denied.
Applicants with felony or domestic violence charges without an outcome in your background check will be denied until the applicant brings a disposition from the court showing dismissal or acquittal.
Pistol permits are available for 1 year, 5 years and lifetime terms for:
$20 - 1 year
$100 - 5 years
$300 - Lifetime for 19-59 years old
$150 - Lifetime for 60 years old and older
Fee waivers are available for retired military, honorably discharged veterans, and active military. Applicant must show DD-214, military ID card, or record and report of separation honorable discharge record for waiver.
Lifetime permits
Lifetime permits will renew every 5 years. MCSO will conduct a background check, and upon verification of no disqualifying event, will renew the permit at no cost.
Please note: You will receive an email to come to our office to complete your application. You also may apply in person at our office.
Renewals
Permits are renewable 6 weeks before your expiration date. There is no grace period after your permit has expired.

There are three ways to renew your permit:
1.) Online: CLICK HERE TO RENEW ONLINE
There is an additional $2.50 fee for card use. You must have an email address on file to renew online.
2.) By Mail: Checks and money orders made payable to: “The Sheriff’s Fund”
Mark the term and include your personal information on the form generated by the link above.
3.) Come to our office in person.
You should not submit a new application if your permit has expired. You are eligible to renew.
Our office accepts cash, personal check, money order, and credit cards except for American Express.
