On June 25, 2013, MOBILE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE received a call from a concerned citizen who said someone called her home and there was a warrant out for her arrest. The caller identified himself to be from MOBILE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE and even had the caller id number as 574-2423. The citizen said she became suspicious when they told her to hang up and call another number to pay. “When they said I had to hang up immediately, call another number and pay that person, then I knew it was a scam,” said the citizen, “I notified the REAL MOBILE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE because I did not want them calling and harassing others.”
THE MOBILE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEVER CALLS ASKING FOR MONEY IN ORDER TO AVOID ARREST. “We do have members of vcorps (volunteer program) calling citizens about outstanding traffic warrants, but they do not ask or accept money,” said Lori Myles, spokesperson for MCSO, “We instruct them to go to District Court and pay their outstanding traffic violation there.” If you receive a call asking you to pay ANYTHING over the phone, you should always make sure that Company or Agency is legit before you give ANY personal information to them.
